INNOVATE Course & Owlspace

ENGI 205: Topics in Global Leadership & Technology
This is a preparatory course for the 2008 INNOVATE Conference to be held in March in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Singapore. Taught via live, interactive webcast between Rice University, the University of Tulsa, and the University of Pittsburgh this symposium gives students the opportunity to learn about how technology is driving globalization from corporate, academic, and community leaders across the nation. Because the INNOVATE conference is short, the course is key to ensure that students have the requisite preparation to take full advantage of the conference speakers and site visits held while we are abroad in Vietnam and Singapore. Each week, guest speakers from the three respective campuses will address topics intended to provide the necessary background for this trip. These lectures will serve as the basis for comparative discussion and analysis. Topics will include: history and politics, economics, contemporary culture and demographics, and technology trends.

This is a required pre-departure course for students Rice, Tulsa, and Pittsburgh though delegates from other universities may choose to enroll in the INNOVATE course for academic credit through the University of Pittsburgh for an additional fee. The course will meet each Tuesday evening during the spring semester from 5:00 - 7:30 pm (CST).

INNOVATE delegates from other campuses will have access to the videos via the INNOVATE OwlSpace site which is a password protected online resource for selected delegates. Archived copies of the live course webcasts will be posted here as they become available.
